What's it about?

Ballymena and Harryville Young Conquerors Flute Band, founded in 1886, is the town’s oldest surviving music group. From humble beginnings as a marching band, the band has evolved over the years into one of the country’s top flute orchestras.  Throughout its history the band has won many competitions, performed in church services and concerts, and has appeared on Ulster and BBC television, as well as making numerous BBC radio broadcasts.

The band is made up of members from all walks of life, and utilises a wide variety of flutes, including C piccolo, G Treble, C Concert, G Alto, C Bass, G Contra alto and C Contra bass, plus additional percussion.

A highlight of the band’s calendar is its annual Spring Concert, which has regularly filled the Braid Arts Centre since 2010. This year’s concert will be held on Thursday 2nd May (7.30 pm ) and will feature the band under its conductor Andrew Douglas and some guest artistes.
